AUDITION FAQ

How do auditions work?

Sign up for our membership interest list to receive information for our audition requirements and events. Once audition events are announced, you will be able to pay your audition fee and register for a specific audition event or to submit a video audition. At your audition event, you may be offered membership in Heat Wave and accept specific performance contracts as they become available.

Is there a deadline to audition?

Auditions will be held until all positions are filled. Heat Wave does not guarantee positions for returning members so each position is available to be filled through the audition process each year. Any video auditions will be reviewed by the next audition event and feedback will be sent to the member by email.

What positions are available?

Each year we hold auditions for all battery, brass, color guard, and front ensemble positions. Heat Wave may audition members within the ensemble for conductor spots on an as needed basis closer to the beginning of the summer program.

What will the tour be for 2025?

We are working to finalize details for 2025, but we will perform in about 10 shows across the southeast. Historically, we've ended our season at the DCI Southeastern Championship in Atlanta. This allows members and staff to make it home in time for school and band camp, and it keeps costs down for you! Move-ins will likely start mid-June. What if I live far away?

Heat Wave holds in-person events in Florida before the national tour. Most members live in Florida, but we have had members from across the US and Europe. If you live far away, you can coordinate with the staff to complete virtual assignments instead of in-person rehearsal camps until the beginning of the summer program.

What does it cost?

Audition Fees

Auditions are only $75 for 2025! The audition fee covers participation in your first Heat Wave camp. Those with callbacks following         

auditions will pay $25 per camp until offered a contract.

Membership Fees and Tuition

We expect 2025 tuition to be under $3,000, though the final amount will be determined at a later date. Once offered a contract, you must either pay in full or make all payments according to the payment schedule. Contracted members may pay a nonrefundable $150 camp fee that applies to their tuition balance if they are unable to pay the full tuition installment by that month's rehearsal camp.
